Although he has suffered through knee injuries over the last two seasons, including one in the 2013 postseason that caused him miss the Thunder’s entire second round series against their current playoff opponent, the Memphis Grizzlies in 2013 (a series the Grizzlies wound up winning in five games), point guard Russell Westbrook does not look like he has lost a step athletically.
Until you see Westbrook jump or run coast-to-coast for a layup, it is hard to appreciate what kind of athlete he really is. On Monday, Westbrook has shown off his skill on several different occasions. On one particular play, Westbrook takes a pass from Thunder forward Kevin Durant at half court and explodes by Grizzlies’ point guard Mike Conley (and everyone else, too) to get to the rim and finish with a layup.
Although the Grizzlies have built an eight-point lead in the fourth quarter, Westbrook has had a huge day. He has 22 points, five rebounds and four assists.
