The choices for the Tennessee Volunteers to take over as the head coach of the men’s basketball team following the recent, sudden departure of Cuonzo Martin are becoming slim.
Earlier on Monday it was reported that Louisiana Tech’s Michael White, one of the prime candidates, would be staying put. Right after that, the attention then turned to Southern Miss’ Donnie Tyndall, whom Jeff Goodman of ESPN is now reporting that the Vols have indeed reached out to.
Tennessee has reached out to Southern Miss coach Donnie Tyndall, sources told ESPN. No offer … Yet.

While the report states that no offer has been made as of yet, you would have to assume that something will be put on the table within the next 24 hours.
The pickings are slim at this point, and it’s clearly obvious that they’re not going to land the big name that reportedly wanted to.
Bringing in the 43-year-old Tyndall, who has had some success with a smaller program like Southern Miss, might be the best choice at this point.
