With just 17 days to go until the NFL Draft begins, all eyes remain on the Houston Texans who are unofficially on the clock with the No. 1 overall pick. But while there has been a lot made about if the Texans should take Jadeveon Clowney or a quarterbacks, it seems we’re forgetting about Buffalo linebacker Khalil Mack.

He’s gotten lost in the shuffle a bit but Houston Texans general manager Rick Smith apparently hasn’t. According to Peter King in his MMQB column, a close friend of Smith’s says that the GM is leaning towards Khalil Mack over Clowney with the first pick in the draft.

This isn’t all that surprising as there have ben some who have questioned the logic behind taking Clowney when you have J.J. Watt. No matter how flawed that logic is, the Texans have other areas of need they would love to plug a top prospect into and that includes quarterback.

We don’t know what the Texans will do with the No. 1 overall pick as trading it remains a possibility as well. But Mack has seemingly entered the conversation again and we’ll see how long he lasts this time around before quarterback talk trumps all.
