Despite signing Michael Vick this offseason, the New York Jets brass has said all the right things regarding fellow quarterback Geno Smith.

Head coach Rex Ryan has all but suggested that as of right now Smith has the lead on Vick for starting duties and that’s a sentiment that Smith himself appears to believe.

Preparing for OTA’s, Smith told Manish Mehta that he feels he is the Jets starting quarterback and that he has the experience to perform in such a role.

"Does Geno Smith feel like he’s the starting QB for the Jets? “Yes.” #nyjGeno Smith: “With the experience I’ve gained… I feel like I’m more than capable of being the starter.” #nyj"

Smith went on to say that he’s excited to learn from Vick, but wouldn’t concede the starting job to the veteran understandably.

At this point, it’s difficult to tell what the Jets truly plan to do in regards to their starting quarterback role given the uncertainty surrounding Smith’s game and ability.
