Following the Texas spring game on Saturday, Longhorns linebacker Steve Edmond had some rather harsh comments about the reigning Big 12 champion Baylor Bears; the same Baylor team that defeated the Longhorns by 20 points for that conference title, mind you.
While speaking to the media, Edmond went out of his way to call the Baylor program “trash,” among some other negative comments he had about the Bears.
Well, Baylor head coach Art Briles was recently asked about the comments, and while he hadn’t heard about them until the reporters had told him, he didn’t seem all that phased by what was said.
“Well that’s all right,” Briles said. “Shoot, everybody’s entitled to their opinion.”
Briles then went on to elaborate a bit further as to why he doesn’t particularly have the time to worry about what others say about his beloved program.
“I wasn’t particularly pleased at some of the places we weren’t victorious, either,” Briles said. “Our cause for celebration that game was for two reasons: winning the Big 12 and closing down Floyd Casey Stadium. I’m not going to spend a lot of time being protective of somebody’s comments about our program when they don’t understand it.”
Knowing Briles and how little he does divulge to the media, this isn’t surprising at all that he doesn’t seem to be bothered by what was said by the Texas linebacker.
Oh yeah, and again, his team beat Texas by 20 points in the regular season finale last season, so why should he care?
