Fox developing Flash Gordon reboot with Star Trek 3 writers

It’s been decades since we last saw the likes of Flash Gordon, but the classic character seems to be on the comeback as Fox is actively developing a film based on the old television series. We can either thank the upswing in comic book properties or we can thank the Seth MacFarlane film Ted, but no matter the reason we have a new Flash Gordon film coming and it might be the most awesome thing ever.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Fox is moving forward with the Flash Gordon film with Star Trek 3 writers J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay.

Twentieth Century Fox has closed a deal to pick up the screen rights to the pulp comic strip hero in a package that has John Davis producing and J.D. Payne and Patrick McKay, the up-and-coming scribes who just worked on Star Trek 3, on board to write the script.

It’s unclear what direction the film will take the character, but we can probably not expect to see the flying treadmill style Flash Gordon we saw in the 1980s. Still, the fact that the character is back is something notable and there’s hope from fans that the film will help revive the character for a new generation.
