It’s been a painfully long road for Manny Machado to recovery, and both he and the team want to make sure that he ends up staying on the field when he comes back.
Jon Morosi of FOX Sports reports that the Orioles could send their third baseman on a rehab assignment as early as Friday. That could land him back with the big league club sometime in the first half of May. Morosi goes on to say that the most optimistic time Machado could return would be May 1st. That is, of course, if everything goes better than anticipated.
Machado has been out since the end of last season with a dislocated knee and subsequent surgery. Baltimore has been treading water, awaiting his return, going 9-9 on the young season so far with rookie Jonathan Schoop assuming usual third base duties.
