Clemson is officially losing their team leader and star player, forward K.J. McDaniels, who today officially declared for the NBA Draft in a release through the school.
McDaniels had until April 27 to make a decision, but has opted to declare now with so many high-profile players already entering the draft, according to a report from the Post and Courier confirmed by McDaniels’ father.
The 6-foot-6 forward out of Birmingham is already projected as a middle-to-late first round pick in several NBA mock drafts, and could see his stock go higher depending on how his pre-draft workouts look. He’s definitely one of the sleeper picks in this year’s draft and could end up becoming a bargain if more higher-profile players end up declaring.
In 2013-14, McDaniels 17.1 points and seven rebounds for the Tigers on their way to the NIT semifinals. Ha led Clemson in points, rebounds, blocks and steals, and was named the ACC defensive player of the year, as well as being named first team All-ACC.
