The New York Knicks fired Mike Woodson on Monday morning but they’ve quickly moved on from him and are now looking at who will coach the team next. As has been the case for the better part of a month now, TNT analyst Steve Kerr is the man in the driver’s seat to become the next head coach of the New York Knicks and things are already bend discussed.

A report from Frank Isola yesterday stated that Kerr would look at all of his coaching options before talking with the Knicks, but USA Today’s Jeff Zillgitt is reporting that the two sides are already in deep discussions about joining forces.

Kerr is the universally accepted best for for the Knicks, as he’s not only shown a desire to coach but has a history with president of basketball operations Phil Jackson that is unlike any other coaching candidate this offseason. Kerr has played for Jackson before while with the Chicago Bulls and seems like he could be molded in Jackson’s image, not necessarily as a puppet head coach but as a guy more open than others to implementing Jackson’s systems and schemes.

It’s not a done deal, but it’s looking like something would need to go seriously wrong for Steve Kerr to not end up the new head coach of the New York Knicks in the very near future.
