Ruben Tejada and Daniel Murphy turn gorgeous DP for Mets

Ruben Tejada is trying to prove naysayers wrong about his defensive ability at shortstop.

As people during the winter were clamoring for the Mets to sign free agent Stephen Drew, Tejada was preparing like Stephen Drew didn’t even exist. On Monday night, the shortstop made two spectacular diving stops on Yadier Molina and Jon Jay. The middle infield defense helped preserve a shutout of the St. Louis Cardinals.

One of those was in collaboration with Daniel Murphy for a double play. It made MLB.com’s “Must C” playlist.

If Tejada can continue to make plays like this, the Mets might well be praised for their shrewd non-signing.
