At times, the Orlando Magic attempted to play Victor Oladipo at point guard this season. The results weren’t as desired despite a solid rookie campaign from Oladipo which apparently has the Magic looking to select a point guard in the 2014 NBA Draft.
That’s the word from ESPN’s Chad Ford who suggests the Magic are heavily interested in Dante Exum and Marcus Smart.
They want a point guard. They experimented with Victor Oladipo there, but preferably they get a young player that is more of a true point. Exum and Marcus Smart are the guys for them. They would’ve taken Smart No. 2 last year, but I think Exum has moved ahead. Lakers also really like Exum. So do the Jazz and Bucks.
Given we don’t know the official draft order at this point we don’t know where the Magic will select, though only the Bucks and Sixers have better ping pong ball odds.
Many mock drafts have Exum in the top five picks while Smart tends to fall between the fifth and tenth picks.
