John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats got some welcoming news on Wednesday morning as Alex Poythress will not be on the mass exodus train to the NBA, rather he will be returning to Lexington for his junior season.
Kentucky announces Alex Poythress is returning for his junior season. Wildcats will have much more experience next season up front.
— Andy Katz (@ESPNAndyKatz) April 23, 2014
The return of Poythress is great news for the Wildcats, especially in the front court as Katz said. Willie Cauley-Stein has also already announced that he will be coming back as well, giving Kentucky some force on the inside to make up for the loss of Julius Randle, or so they hope.
In the march toward the national championship game this past season, Poythress averaged 5.9 points with 4.5 rebounds, although those numbers should make a significant jump next season with more playing time. He only averaged 18.4 minutes during the 2013-14 season.
Another bit of good news for Cal and Kentucky, indeed.
