For perhaps the final time in their distinguished careers, Dallas Mavericks’ power forward Dirk Nowitzki and San Antonio Spurs’ power forward Tim Duncan are doing battle in the postseason.
Duncan’s Spurs got the better of Nowitzki’s Mavericks in game 1, rallying for a 90-85 victory to take a 1-0 series lead.
The Mavericks got off to a fantastic start in game 2, taking a 15-point lead on a Notwitzki 3-pointer with just 2:31 in the quarter at 56-51. That, however would be the last time the Mavericks got on the board in the first half.
The Spurs ended the half on a 10-0 run with eight of the points coming from Manu Ginobili.
During the run, the Mavericks had no answer for the Spurs and both teams have had some trouble defending each other in the first half.
At one point, Nowitzki got a taste of his own medicine on defense. Spurs’ veteran forward Boris Diaw drove from the left across the lane to his right and performed a couple of fakes before hitting a fadeaway over Nowitzki.
