It would appear that Mike D’Antoni’s future with the Lakers is safe and secure if even just for this moment. While there have been rampant rumors about his possible firing for months now, a new report suggests that D’Antoni isn’t going anywhere this offseason — especially not Marshall University.
Last month a story broke that suggested D’Antoni was destined for Marshall after he was fired by the Lakers but Charleston Daily Mail is reporting that D’Antoni will remain with the Lakers and not leave for Marshall.
Sources told the Charleston Daily Mail on Tuesday afternoon that D’Antoni will remain the head coach of the Lakers and, thus, will not be in position to accept the vacant Herd hoops job.
D’Antoni is staying put. Hamrick is moving on.
There’s a lot to chew on there, specifically that this sounds like D’Antoni’s job is safe and he won’t be getting fired. It was never a case of D’Antoni leaving for Marshall so much as it was that would be his landing spot once axed by Mitch Kupchak.
It sounds like that won’ the happening though as D’Antoni survived the first wave of coaching changes on Monday and while he’s not out of the woods yet, his chances of staying look better than they’ve been in the past.
