NFL Rumors: Tennessee Titans may trade up to draft Justin Gilbert

The NFL Draft is right around the corner and it seems that teams are not only looking seriously at what will be available to them when they go on the clock but also at what they may be able to get if they move around the draft order a little. We’ve been hearing for weeks now about the Houston Texans, St. Louis Rams and Atlanta Falcons possibly making moves to trade up or down but a new team has entered the ring as well.

According to CBSSports.com’s Pat Kirwan, the Tennessee Titans may be a candidate to move up in the draft should they covet a top cornerback.

If the Titans (No. 11) are interested in a corner like Oklahoma State’s Justin Gilbert, I think they better make a call to the Vikings and see if they are interested in moving down three spots.

This doesn’t seem to make a whole lot of sense as Gilbert is a top cornerback but not one that you’d think about trading into the top 10 to get. Still, with the way the top picks are being shuffled around in projections, it’s becoming impossible to predict what will happen and having to trade up for someone like Gilbert may end up becoming a reality for the Titans.

    From NFL.com:

Even with the loss of Alterraun Verner, Whisenhunt warned Moss not to expect a first-round cornerback, either. The Titans think highly of young corners Blidi Wreh-Wilson, Coty Sensabaugh, Tommie Campbell and Khalid Wooten.

Now maybe this is a smokescreen. Regardless, the Titans have six picks (no third-rounder) and a lot of areas to address. I have cornerback as the 7th most important. Outsiders don’t take into account that this organization has enjoyed great success developing their mid-rounders (ATV 4th, Jason McCourty 6th, Cortland Finnegan 7th). All that makes it highly unlikely that this “I think they better make a call” trade-up speculation would ever happen. Maybe if he’s their “BPA” at No. 11. Not trading up though.
