On Wednesday, the Notre Dame Fighting Irish landed their seventh verbal commitment in the class of 2014 when 3-star offensive guard Trevor Ruhland gave his pledge to the Irish.
Ruhland visited Notre Dame on the weekend of April 5 and picked up an offer. It clearly didn’t take him long to make his decision.
“It was a lot of things,” Ruhland told Steve Wiltfong of 24/7 Sports. “How close it was to home. My parents and family can come watch me play. Also the tradition there. They’re always going to compete for championships. To be able to put that gold crown on and compete on Saturdays, nothing better than that.”
The 6’4, 270-pounder is from Cary, Illinois and attends Cary-Grove High School.
Ruhland is ranked as the 38th-best offensive guard prospect in the country, the 11th-best overall prospect from the state of Illinois and the 664th-best overall prospect in the class of 2015, according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings.
Ruhland also had offers from the California Golden Bears, Connecticut Huskies, Duke Blue Devils and Kentucky Wildcats, among others.
