Stephen Colbert made his first appearance on The Late Show with David Letterman since he was named as the successor to Letterman who is retiring at a yet-to-be-determined date in 2015 on Tuesday night.

Colbert expressed gratitude for being chosen, calling it an honor, to sit behind the Late Show desk when the longest late night talk show host ever retires next year and Letterman called him “a great choice and not just another boob like me.”

the current host of the Late Show and the future host of the Late Show also took a selfie to preserve the memory.

Colbert also shared a story about his girlfriend interviewing for an internship that she didn’t get and Colbert reading a Top Ten list he wrote 17 years ago.

Here is Colbert’s Top Ten list titled Cocktails for Santa:

I think No. 2 is my favorite. CBS signed Colbert to a five-year deal and will leave behind his Colbert Report persona as host of the Late Show.

I think he’s going to be a fantastic host, how about you?
