The Cincinnati Reds have finally started to enjoy the benefits of having super-speedy outfielder Billy Hamilton at the top of their lineup in recent games.
To wit: Hamilton has stolen seven bases in the last week of games. That glut of stolen bases is much more the result of the fact that Hamilton just finally started to get on base consistently.
Having established and started to appreciate just how devastating his speed can be, we can then take a moment to appreciate it when any catcher actually throws Hamilton out. As such, here is Pittsburgh Pirates’ catcher Chris Stewart catching Hamilton stealing on Thursday to stop his recent streak of stolen bases.
Whether it took a pitch-out or not to give Stewart a chance, hat’s off to him for catching Hamilton. The way things are going, it will be one of very few times that Hamilton does not successfully steal a base when he makes an attempt.
