In last night’s game against the Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees starting pitcher Michael Pineda was ejected for having a foreign substance on the back of his neck, pine tar. Pineda tried to explain himself after the game claiming he just wanted extra control to avoid hitting someone.
“It was a really cold night, and in the first inning I [couldn't] feel the ball,” Pineda said, via ESPN. “I don’t want to like, hit anybody, so I decided to use it.”
After being ejected, Pineda was sitting in the tunnel being talked to when a ESPN camera turned and pointed down the tunnel at the convo. Yankees manager Joe Girardi came over and turned the camera to give Pineda some privacy.
