NBA Rumors: Marshall’s hiring of Dan D’Antoni not related to Mike D’Antoni’s Lakers’ future

Los Angeles Lakers’ head coach Mike D’Antoni’s future in southern California is cloudy at best.

That’s why when the head coaching position with the Marshall Thundering Herd came open, D’Antoni’s name was connected. D’Antoni attended Marshall.

However, D’Antoni decided he was not interested in the gig and instead the Herd hired another Marshall alumn on Thursday, Mike’s brother, Dan.

According to Ramona Shelburne of ESPN Los Angeles, Mike consulted with the Herd, but the hiring has nothing to do with his future with the Lakers.

D’Antoni was named the Lakers’ head coach back in November of 2012 after the team decided to fire Mike Brown. Many believed the Lakers were going to bring back Phil Jackson, so the hiring of D’Antoni was not popular. He is 67-87 in just under two seasons with the Lakers.
