San Diego Chargers linebacker Dwight Freeney saw his 2013 season end early with a quadriceps tear in late September. He is looking to bounce back in 2014 and got a clean bill of health from doctors.
“The doctors have said that I’ve healed completely,” Freeney said early this week, via ESPN.com. “So now it’s all about getting my strength back.”
Freeney was forced to take a pay cut in March and watched multiple veterans at the same position around the league like Julius Peppers, DeMarcus Ware and Jared Allen be released by their former teams. Freeney is older than most of them but still capable of producing at a high level.
“It just tells us that it’s a young man’s game,” Freeney explained. “We all understand it. We all get it. We might not like it, but that’s what it is … But we still have value. For teams that want to win now, that’s what’s happening.”
