After a few midweek days of slim pickings on the waiver wire, Saturday offers a comparative feast of options if you need some starting pitching help to finish the week strong. In fact, there are six options who are available in over half of ESPN leagues that I think make nice additions heading into their Saturday starts.
If you are ever looking on the waiver wire for pitching pickups, check back on Fansided each afternoon for my starting pitcher pickups (archive here where you can also set a bookmark for the daily updates). You can also see how my past picks have fared on the final slide of the post. All of my choices are available in at least half of ESPN leagues and their ownership percentage is included in parentheses.
Here are my picks for Saturday:
Jenrry Mejia-New York Mets (15.4%)
I’ve been slow to board the Mejia bandwagon as a streaming option, but he’s been impressive enough to win me over coming off his best start of the year. On Monday, he held the Cardinals scoreless for 6.2 innings while allowing only four hits and three walks and striking out seven.
He’s picked up at least seven K’s in three of his four starts although his pitch count hasn’t allowed him to get through the seventh inning yet. His ERA on the season is now an impressive 1.99 and he’s holding opponents to a .193 average. On Saturday, he’ll take on the Marlins at Citi Field where he’s only allowed one run in 11.2 innings of work this season. Mejia has been a nice pickup and is your best option if he’s still on the wire in your league.
