With the loss of LeGarrette Blount this offseason, the New England Patriots are in the market for a running back in the NFL Draft next month, and according to National Football Post, they worked out former Wisconsin Badgers star James White recently.

Whit was really never the featured back during his time with the Badgers, splitting carries with Montee Ball and more recently Melvin Gordon, however he does bring that versatility to the table that the Patriots ask for out of most of their backs.

Despite splitting those carries with Gordon last season, White still finished the year up with over 1,400 yards and broke the school’s receiving yardage record for a running back with 672. New England loves to created passing options out of the backfield, and White could be the perfect fit for that.

In a running back class that isn’t considered very deep, it’s a surprise that White hasn’t headed toward the top of the list already, especially after he turned in an impressive Combine performance in which he ran the 40-yard dash in 4.57 and was a hit on the bench press.

The Patriots could get a steal in the former Wisconsin back.
