The San Francisco 49ers have been rumored to be shopping running back LaMichael James ahead of the NFL Draft and while he makes a likely trade candidate given the cluster of backs San Francisco already has, a trade doesn’t seem to be in the cards.

According to Matt Barrows from the Sacramento Bee, Niners general manager Trent Baalke said he has no plans to trade James anytime soon.

While this is a little strange, it’s understandable that the Niners would rather hang onto James than give him up for next to nothing. The best they could have hoped for was a late round pick in exchange for James and he’s far more valuable to them than that.

Still, the draft is right around the corner and it’s still possible that someone could swoop in and decide James is with a chance and a trade may be offered.
