Anyone who watched the series premiere of the new WGN America series Salem knows that the series shows a dark, gritty side to the Salem Witch Trials. Now, it would seem as if the network is making a move that will make their opening credits set a tone more indicative of the series’ ominous tone.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, WGN America has enlisted shock rocker Marilyn Manson to work alongside series composer Tyler Bates to create a new opening sequence for the series. The new song will be called “Cupid Carries a Gun,” and will debut before the second episode of the series entitled “The Stone Child” when it airs on Sunday night.
Manson says that “Cupid Carries a Gun” is the last track he recorded for his upcoming album, and expressed his views on the Salem series.
“The song ‘Cupid Carries a Gun’ was the last track we just finished for my new album,” says Manson tells The Hollywood Reporter. “The occult and witchcraft [are] so often used in cinema with a heinous disregard for even researching its origins. However, I liked the themes of Salem. It looks at the witch trials without being cliche like most modern films.”
Don’t want to wait until Sunday to see the new opening sequence? No problem. Here is a look at the new opening sequence for the WGN America series Salem.
I think it is safe to say that we have only scraped the surface of the dark and twisted plan to witches of Salem have in store for the people of the small town.
