For as much as everyone likes to bash WWE creative and the handling of some talent, and sometimes rightfully so, one thing that you can’t argue is how long The Shield has been able to stay relevant. It’s been almost two years since the three-man faction debuted from the NXT ranks, and they’ve certainly continued to make their marks on the industry.
Lately though, the Shield are making their mark a little differently as they’ve done so as babyfaces, or fan favorites. As time has gone on, the crowd eventually warmed up to the young trio, and they now find themselves in the best position since they were called up by feuding with Evolution, which happens to include one of the top executives in the company, HHH.
It has been a wild ride for the three, and recently Seth Rollins spoke a little bit about the Shield’s turn, explaining it as organic.
“It’s just how things happen. It’s been an interesting transformation, I suppose.” Rollins told SLAM Wrestling. “But to be honest with you, we really haven’t done much different. We just started targeting different people, I suppose. By that association, the fans just started to get with us. It’s been fun. It’s been a side to take for sure, but I think it’s something that we’re all pretty excited about.”
He’s right, other than target some new people, the three have really done nothing different, but since the Attitude Era days, that’s how it’s worked. The crowd chooses who they want to boo and who they want to cheer, and with each passing week, the cheers for The Shield get louder and louder.
