New York Yankees release Nik Turley, option Shane Greene

The first place New York Yankees picked up a 4-3 victory over the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim to improve to 14-10 on the year. They currently have a two game lead over the Baltimore Orioles, with the World Series winning Boston Red Sox near the bottom of the division standings.

During the game the New York Yankees have released 24 year old left-handed pitcher Nik Turley. Turley spent the 2013 between Double-A Trenton and Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre after putting up a complete 3.79 ERA over 145 complete innings. He’ll pick up some interest from teams who will be looking to add depth in their rotation.

With Turley being released, the Yankees optioned right-handed pitcher Shane Greene to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. The 25 year old righty appeared in only one game with the big league club where he issued three walks before he was pulled after one-third of an outing.

It’s not much, but he’ll continue to give the New York Yankees some bullpen depth down in their farm system.
