Two fights, two finishes. Luke Rockhold and Tim Boetsch were looking to keep the momentum rolling on the main card of UFC 172, when they faced off in a key middleweight bout of two top 15 fighters.
Round 1: Rockhold landed the first significant shot of the night and was able to lock in an inverted triangle when Boetsch attempted to take him to the ground. Rockhold continued to tighten the inverted triangle while working for a kimura, which was ultimately enough to force the tap.
It was a spirited effort from Boetsch, but Rockhold’s ability to control Boetsch in the inverted triangle was all that he needed to open him up for the fight ending kimura attempt. Rockhold certainly staked his claim to being one of the next challengers for the middleweight belt.
Official result: Luke Rockhold def. Tim Boetsch via submission (kimura), Round 1 (2:08)
