With less than one minute left in their game five showdown with the Minnesota Wild, things did not look so good for the Colorado Avalanche. Down a goal and scrambling to try and tie thingsup , the Avalanche scampered to try and prevent a game-clinching empty net goal. With the help of a couple missed calls (a hold and an offsides), Colorado plucked the game away from the Wild by converting dramatic goals to send the game to overtime and then win it in the extra frame to take a 3-2 series lead.
Now they might be able to add the return of a star player to their sudden reversal of fortunes. Matt Duchene, who has been out since the beginning of April with a sprained MCL, might be able to return for game six in Minnesota. When asked about bringing him back, head coach Patrick Roy said the following (from the Denver Post):
We’re going to take a serious look at it.”
The Avalanche looked overwhelmed by the Wild when last they played in their building, so it will be interesting to see how the momentum from Colorado’s dramatic comeback win carries over. The return of Duchene would certainly seem to be something that would add to that momentum if it were to happen.
