The Orlando Magic have an important decision to make in the next few months – retain point guard Jameer Nelson or let him walk.
The veteran is due $8 million dollars for the 2014-15 season but his contract is only partially guaranteed, meaning the Magic could pay him $2 million dollars, allowing him to become a free agent.
However, according to Larry Ridley, it appears the Magic are likely to keep Nelson in Orlando – at least for now.

While saving $6 million dollars on his salary would be beneficial for the Magic, Nelson is still a trade asset and could bring back at minimum moderate talent if Orlando opted to move him next season.
Orlando is also void of any significant point guard talent so keeping Nelson would allow him to mentor a potential draft pick, assuming the Magic did opt to select such.
For what it’s worth, Nelson has stated multiple times he wants to remain in Orlando.
