There was some reported shots fired between Jay Z and Lil Wayne a few years ago, though they both downplayed the incident. Now it looks like Jay Z and Wayne’s label-mate Drake are engaged in some back and forth.
It all started with Drake dissing Jay Z in an interview with Rolling Stone saying: “It’s like Hov can’t drop bars these days without at least four art references! I would love to collect at some point, but I think the whole rap/art world thing is getting kind of corny.”
Jay Z responded on a remix of Jay Electronica’s “We Made It” with the following lyrics: “Sorry Mr. Drizzy for so much art talk / Silly me rappin’ about shit that I really bought/ while these rappers rap about guns they ain’t shot/and a bunch of other silly shit that they ain’t got.”
Then Drake took what seemed like shots on his “Draft Day” single: “I’m focused on making records and getting bigger/ Just hits, no misses, that’s for the married folk…”
And now, Jay Z has responded in a verse on DJ Khaled’s “They Don’t Love You No More.”
“Haters wanna ball, let me tighten up my draw string/ Wrong sport, boy, you know you’re as soft as a Lacrosse team.”
And of course, Drake’s Raptors and Jay Z’s Nets are playing one another in the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs. You can check out Jay Z’s latest verse below:
