When last Jose Fernandez of the Miami Marlins took the mound against the Atlanta Braves, he made the Braves’ lineup look foolish all night as he struck out 14 hitters en route to the victory.
On Tuesday night he fooled a player on the Braves, Tyler Pastornicky in this case, in a different way. Please observe:
You might be inclined to think fake throws and/or pump fakes never work in baseball. As Fernandez proves here, you would be wrong. As for Pastornicky, his was a somewhat risky move that would have only paid off on a throw to first in which the runner was safe. Fernandez sensed as much, apparently, and pulled out a slick play.
