Marlins designate Greg Dobbs for assignment

In order to create room for Ed Lucas on the 25-man roster, the Miami Marlins announced that they designated pinch hitter Greg Dobbs for assignment.

Lucas has been sidelined with a fractured hand. He underwent surgery to repair the left hand in the first week of April and returning this weeks is earlier than the original 5-7 week prognosis for his return. Last year, in his first Major League season, Lucas appeared in 94 games, racking up a .256/.311/.336 slash line while playing a variety of positions, including all infield positions and left field.

Greg Dobbs is an 11-year veteran of Major League Baseball, having played with the Marlins for the last three seasons. He appeared in 15 games this season, but he has been a full-time player for the Fish during his time. He has primarily played third base, but has time at first and both corner outfield spots.
