Was Robinson Cano booed in his return to Yankee Stadium to face the Yankees?
By Jack Crosby
Tuesday night marked the first time that Robinson Cano would enter Yankee Stadium as a member of the Seattle Mariners after signing a 10-year, $240 million contract this past offseason after spending his entire All-Star career with the Bronx Bombers.
Prior to the game on Tuesday, Cano said that he hoped he would be received well by the Yankees crowd.
”Hopefully good,” Cano said of the reception he’ll get via Yahoo Sports. ”The way that I left New York, it wasn’t a good way. You just go there to play the game and try to beat them.”
So, with the Mariners the visiting team on Tuesday night and Cano up early in the first inning, did he get his wish?
Well, no he didn’t as when he stepped into the batter’s box, the boos from the few that are in attendance rained down.
Of course, the extreme irony in all of this is that Yankees fans are displeased with Cano because he left the team to go elsewhere for a significant raise, something the Yankees have built their reputation on doing to others.
