Chris Davis hopes to return to the Baltimore Orioles lineup as soon as possible. To bolster those efforts, he received two platelet-rich injections this week.
Davis said the following about the procedure (from the Baltimore Sun):
They drew my blood and injected the platelets from my blood into my oblique because it is supposed to speed up the healing process.”
By going through this process Davis is hoping to buck the trend with oblique injuries; position players tend to miss big chunks of time, often longer than the initial time tables, with such injuries.
The Orioles and Davis would both like to see the slugger back in the lineup so that he can turn things around. Davis is off to a slow start after leading the Major Leagues in home runs last season. As for the Orioles, they are off to a steady start with a .500 record (12-12) but would like to see more punch from their lineup.
The return of third baseman Manny Machado is one step in that direction. The acceleration of Chris Davis would be a good second step as the Orioles try keep their spot near the top of the American League East.
