Rumors have been circulating for some time that No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani would be joining the judges’ panel in the upcoming seventh season of The Voice. Last night before the elimination round began for the Top 10 contestants, host Carson Daly took to the stage to make a very special announcement.
“Guys, before we start the show, I want to make a very, very big announcement for us here,” he said. “Listen. This all just happened moments ago because we’re live, and we’re very happy to officially announce that two music superstars will be joining the next season in these coaches’ chairs. Pharrell Williams and Gwen Stefani will be added to the Voice family.”
Pharrell Williams will be taking the chair of singer/songwriter Cee-Lo Green who announced earlier this year that he would not be returning to the show. Gwen Stefani will be taking the place of Christina Aguilera who announced that she is expecting her second child, a baby girl.
In order to introduce the two newest judges joining the panel, the two stars will be performing live on next Monday’s episode of The Voice. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Pharrell will be performing his single “Come Get it Bae” off of his latest album G I R L. Stefani will be performing her song “Hollaback Girl,” which was incidentally produced by none other than Pharrell himself.
Just in case you missed last night’s episode of The Voice, you can take a look at it right here. The official announcement of the additions to the judges’ panel happens at just about the two minute mark.
The Voice airs on Monday and Tuesday nights at 8:00 p.m. on NBC.
