Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid made a statement today that the NFL should follow suit with the NBA. Reid congratulated the NBA on its decision to ban Sterling from the NBA after racist remarks were disclosed.

"“Commissioner Silver and the NBA leadership have set the standard for how professional sports organization should act in the face of racism,” Reid said. “How long will the NFL continue to do nothing, zero, as one of its teams bears the name that inflicts so much pain for Native Americans.”"

This statement stems from Reid advocating the Washington Redskins to change their name and rid the NFL of “bigotry”.

On the other hand, Redskins owner Daniel Snyder refuses to consider changing the name and considers it to be a badge of honor. Due to this refusal, Reid is pushing for the NFL to take the initiative.

Whether this is enough to force a name change is yet to be seen.
