Lionsgate Entertainment launches gaming division

Well it seems that Lionsgate isn’t just satisfied with only making movies, as they’ll enter the gaming arena. The company announced today it’s launching a games division, and ex-Nerdist CEO Peter Levin will lead the charge.

According to GI International, Levin will be responsible for starting the film studio’s expansion into interactive entertainment.

This could come from a brand new IP or investing in existing titles. The new division will have the chance to make titles using Lionsgate’s already established franchises or use other brands.

Before this new role, Levin was the co-founder and CEO of YouTube and podcasting network Nerdist Industries. He also worked as an advisor for media company Rovio.

“Peter is a perfect fit for our entrepreneurial culture, and he is ideally qualified to lead the continued growth of our content business into the video game space and other interactive digital ventures,” Lionsgate CEO Jon Feltheimer said in a statement.

“Gaming has become one of the most explosive growth areas of the content business, and Peter’s mandate will be to build a portfolio of premium digital properties as we expand our leadership in films and television programming into digital content as well.”

So going by past movies from Lionsgate Entertainment, we could see a future game that’s similar to the Hunger Games or maybe vampires, as Summit Entertainment is a subsidiary of Lionsgate.

You can leave a comment below with your thoughts on this and what should their first game be about.

Thanks, GI International
