Matt Garza injures thumb, out of Brewers/Cardinals game

After surrendering a two-run lead to the Cardinals and giving up 4 runs over three innings, Matt Garza was removed from the Brewers/Cardinals game at Busch Stadium Wednesday afternoon.

Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reported that there was something wrong with Garza’s pitching hand and speculated that it could be a blister. Garza had only faced one batter in the fourth inning and was replaced by Wei-Chung Wang.

Ron Roenicke, earlier in the day, had been quoted as saying he hoped he could get a complete game from Garza Wednesday afternoon. About twenty minutes after the incident, the team announced via Twitter that Garza suffered a right thumb contusion and is considered day-to-day.
