It would appear that basketball in Texas just got a lot more interesting, at least in Austin. According to multiple reports including ESPN, 5-star center prospect Myles Turner has decided to commit to the Longhorns and will be taking his basketball talents to Texas.
The move is rather surprising considering the hype surrounding Turner and the fact that Texas really hasn’t been relevant on the college basketball scene for a while. They made this first round of the NCAA March Madness tournament this year and made it to the Round of 32, but so did Mercer and North Dakota State.
It’s not that the Longhorns have been particularly bad in the Big 12 but they haven’t been the force they were at times over the past ten years. Still, the school is clearly attractive to at least one major recruit and Turner coming aboard may lead to other big commitments next year.
As for the schools he burned, Texas may have made some enemies as by choosing the Longhorns, Turner turned down other college basketball power house schools to stay in his hometown state and hopefully lead the Longhorns back to glory they haven’t tasted in a while. There’s even some Big 12 drama brewing as Turner had offers and was consider school like Kansas but has chosen to go to Texas and help take the school’s basketball program back to thrilling heights.
