Penn State Football: James Franklin responds to Vanderbilt rape case tampering allegations

Tuesday afternoon, a report came out of the state of Tennessee that former Vanderbilt head coach James Franklin had actually been involved in the rape case against four former Commodores football players, even though he had previously been cleared of any wrongdoing. Through a release from Penn State, Franklin has responded to the allegations of tampering by contacting the victim in the case.

“The allegations that I did something wrong are simply not true. I have cooperated fully with the authorities in this matter but, out of respect for the legal process, I am not able to comment any further.”

Franklin was accused in the report from the Tennessean of contacting the victim four days after the alleged attack took place during a medical examination. Franklin allegedly cited the reason for the check-in as just wanted to makes sure she was okay because she helped with recruiting.

It was also mentioned that Franklin had brought the female in previously to get a group of 15 pretty girls together to assist in the recruiting process, even though he knew that it was against the rules.

This particular case that all of this centers around was a concern when Penn State was set to hire Franklin this offseason following the departure of Bill O’Brien to the NFL. Still dealing with everything stemming from the high-profile Jerry Sandusky scandal, there was worries that bringing in Franklin, given this alleged incident, was not the best idea in the world. But, Penn State assured everyone that they did their homework and their new coach had done nothing wrong.

That might be changing.

What is that smell wafting down from otherwise Happy Valley?

Could it be possible that interim AD David Joyner failed to properly vet Coach Franklin and thereby allowed a questionable issue to once again occupy the minds of Penn State fans, students, alumni and everyone in between? Rather strange how the Penn State Administration continues to screw up the works.

Question now exists as to how long it will take the Harrisburg Patriot News to get wind of this tasty morsel.

This is hack job journalism at best. Why wouldn’t you mention in the story that these allegations were from the defense attorney of one of the accused rapists trying to save his client by throwing whatever he can against the wall to see what sticks? Why wouldn’t you do even the slightest amount of investigative journalism? How about calling the prosecutor on the case? If you had then you would have heard what he has said since you wrote this. That Franklin did nothing wrong. He actually said that what Franklin did was actually a nice thing and that it is horrible that people are twisting it around to try to make a good man look bad.
Hopefully, you are embarrassed enough that you will learn a lesson. There are too many hack journalists as it is. Be a better man.
