Robbie Ray to make Tigers debut next week

With Anibal Sanchez on the DL, the Tigers have decided that the final piece in the Doug Fister trade to the Nationals will be put into play.

The Tigers already traded Steve Lombardozzi to the Orioles and are using Ian Krol in the bullpen. Now, as Sanchez continues to heal from a laceration on the middle finger of his pitching hand, Jason Beck of MLB.com says that the team announced that Robbie Ray will make a spot start next week. Ray’s MLB debut will come on Tuesday against the Houston Astros.

Robbie Ray, 22, has made five starts for Triple-A Toledo. Over 28.1 innings for the Mud Hens, Ray has a 1.59 ERA with 21 strikeouts and a 4.20 K/BB ratio. Because he is not on the 40-man roster, a corresponding move will need to be made to add him.
