Gio Gonzalez helps high school student ask girl to the prom

High school students are under a lot of pressure these days, and that includes even with small things like asking a girl to prom. Georgetown Prep high school senior Nick Rolle was able to convince his girlfriend, Lauren Thomas, to go with him but with the help of Washington Nationals starting pitcher Gio Gonzalez.

Rolle, who is the grandson of MASN studio host Johnny Holliday, asked his grandfather if a Nationals player would be interested in helping out. Holliday got Rolle and Thomas field passes for a game in late April and as they were watching, Gonzalez came over and introduced himself and gave Thomas a ball with a special message.

“She smiled and was just really, really surprised,” Rolle told Dan Steinberg of DC Sports Bog earlier this week. “She said yes, and Gio hung around and joked with us for a few minutes. It was perfect; he was so down to Earth. He could’ve just given us the ball and walked away, but he spent some time with us.”
