World No. 1 Inbee Park is back to defend her title at the North Texas LPGA Shootout presented by JTBC. Last year, Park defeated Carlota Ciganda by one stroke for her third of six victories in 2013. Park made winning look easy last season, and although she has six top 10s in 2014, she needs Ws to extend her lead atop the Rolex World Rankings.
Stacy Lewis is also struggling to get into the winner’s circle despite seven top 10s in eight events. Her record is even better when you consider she has three second place finishes and two more top five finishes. Lewis is playing well enough to win, but sometimes the best players in the world have a way of spoiling plans.
Stacy Lewis and Inbee Park share the same desire to win tournaments, so their lack of Ws in 2014 must be frustrating. However, they are the two frontrunners this week until proven otherwise.
You may say I picked the two players ranked the highest in the field, so my contribution is minimal. However, when you look at their records, it is undeniable they have the best chance of winning almost every week. A top 10 is like going to overtime in basketball. A shot here or there is the difference between winning or losing. Their track records show there are only so many overtime thrillers you go through before you win.
