It’s May Day as we start a brand new month on Streak for the Cash with a fresh start for all streakers.  As usual, the Streak powers have given us some apparent gifts to start the month with, but you never know when those obvious picks can go horribly wrong.  Thankfully, there is plenty of time to recover, so go crazy and get as many picks on the board as you can to kick off the new month today.

The board is a solid one with picks throughout the day spanning from 8:00 in the morning until the late NBA game which won’t start until well after 10:30. Along the way are plenty of Major League Baseball picks to go with the continuing NBA Playoffs and the start of the second round in the Stanley Cup playoffs.  Before we get to the full slate of evening options, golf and UEFA Europa League soccer help us get things started.  Here are my picks for the day with a quick rundown of each selection and my confidence  in each choice on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being the most confident:

5/1 Streak Picks

Apr 11, 2014; Augusta, GA, USA; Rory McIlroy hits his approach to the 18th green during the second round of the 2014 The Masters golf tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. Mandatory Credit: Jack Gruber-USA TODAY Sports

8:00- Rory McIlroy or Tie: Both Rory and Rickie Fowler are previous champions at the Wells Fargo Championship in Charlotte at Quail Hollow Club. Since he’s getting the tie and has been in better form lately I’ll take the tie and go with Rory.  The third member of this grouping and of this prop is Jonas Blixt who is a sleeper I like this week, but I don’t think he’ll figure into this prop. Confidence-4

1:05- Boston Red Sox: There’s a little confusion as to who is starting which game for Boston, but I like Boston to get the win if Peavy starts the day game (as it says on MLB.com and in the AP preview).  If it’s Felix Doubront, stay away since he’s been struggling lately or go with the Rays even though they’ve had issues on the road.   Peavy has been solid lately, so I’m pretty confident with him on the hill. Confidence-5

Apr 10, 2014; Augusta, GA, USA; Phil Mickelson hits out of a bunker on the 2nd hole during the first round of the 2014 The Masters golf tournament at Augusta National Golf Club. Mandatory Credit: Michael Madrid-USA TODAY Sports

1:25- Yes at least 1 player shoots 70 or lower: This group is pretty solid with just one of Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood or Justin Rose needing to get a -2 to get the green for this side of the the prop. Mickelson has a great history here but sketchy form, while Rose has good form but bad history at Quail Hollow.  Westwood is also a solid option since he’s playing well too, so I think one of them will go low unless weather kicks up and scores are high throughout the morning. This prop will lock you out of the rest of the afternoon options most likely, but it could pay off as long as one of this trio has a good start to the tournament. Confidence-6

3:05- Juventus: Juve comes home after getting an away goal but losing 2-1 to the Portuguese side in the first leg of their Europa league semi.  The Italians need to make up the goal disadvantage but at 30-3-2 domestically they’ve been on all season and I think they’ll be just fine in this one. Confidence-4

3:06- Sevilla FC: Sevilla leads 2-0 as they travel to Valencia to try and eliminate their fellow Spanish squad and move on to the finals.  Sevilla has the better domestic record and a two-goal lead so the odds are heavily in their favor. Confidence-6 1/2

4:05- Juventus: Since I think Juventus wins the game, it stands to reason they would score first in the second half. Confidence-4

4:05- Pittsburgh Pirates: The Pirates and O’s will try to play a pair this afternoon and tonight after a washout yesterday. In game 1, the Bucs send Charlie Morton to the hill against Bud Norris. Norris hasn’t been impressive, so I’ll go with the road squad to steal game one. Confidence-3

7:05- New York Yankees: The Yankees host Seattle tonight as they take on rookie starter Roenis Elias and their former teammate Robinson Cano.  After Cano was given the “you sold out” welcome to Yankee Stadium, the Mariners took game one last night 6-3, but I think the Yankees get a split of the two-game set tonight as Hiroki Kuroda looks to bounce back from his own rough start his last time out.  Confidence-4

Apr 28, 2014; Indianapolis, IN, USA; Atlanta Hawks forward Paul Millsap (4) lays the ball in against Indiana Pacers guard Lance Stephenson (1) in game five of the first round of the 2014 NBA Playoffs at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Mandatory Credit: Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

7:05- Atlanta Hawks: The Pacers came into the playoffs as the Eastern Conference’s top seed, but they haven’t played like it and are on the verge of elimination as they visit Atlanta to play a virtually unknown Hawks team.  Indiana has looked totally lost and were just run out of their own building in game five.  They need to figure out what ails them fast, but I don’t see them turning it around fast enough to get the win tonight. Confidence-5

7:05- Baltimore Orioles: In the nightcap of their double-dip the Bucs and O’s will probably start a little later than this list time, but Baltimore is one of the stronger picks of the night and may be worth waiting for.  The main reason I like Baltimore so much in game 2 is starter Chris Tillman who has been dealing in the early going for Baltimore.  The Pirates have struggled in the early going and their 4-8 road record makes them a long shot to sweep a double-header on the road.  I think the Pirates get game one but the Orioles bounce back for game 2. Confidence-6

7:10- Tampa Bay Rays: With Doubront on the hill in the nightcap of the Sox-Rays twinbill, I’ll take Chris Archer in this matchup of struggling starters.  Neither of the young hurlers have been consistent, but I have zero confidence in Doubront as a Red Sox fan. Confidence-3

7:10- Los Angeles Dodgers: LA and Minnesota are supposed to try and play a pair as well with their second game featuring a matchup of young pitchers at Target Field.  The Dodgers are expected to give the ball to Red Patterson making his MLB debut against Kris Johnson who only has four MLB games of experience.  Since I like the Dodgers lineup better and think Johnson will struggle more, I’ll take the Dodgers on the road.  With two young pitchers like this in the mix, this game is a tough one to call. Confidence-4

7:10- Milwaukee Brewers: The Brewers are coming off a historically great April as they look to carry their momentum into May as they take on their NL Central division rivals in Cincinnati. The Brewers are an amazing 11-2 on the road as they open this four-game set at Great American Ballpark against Homer Bailey. Bailey has really struggled this season and comes in with a 6.15 ERA.  He’ll be opposed by Marco Estrada who has been pretty effective for the Brew Crew. Confidence-5

7:10- Atlanta Braves: Atlanta gives the ball to Ervin Santana tonight as they try to bounce back from a pair of tough losses and try to avoid the sweep in Miami. Santana is 3-0 with a 1.95 ERA as he faces Henderson Alvarez who has also pitched well as of late.  I’ll take the Braves based on Santana’s numbers and the fact that they haven’t been swept in Miami since 2006. Confidence-4

7:30- Boston Bruins: The B’s open their second round series against their arch-rival Canadiens tonight at the TD Garden.  Both teams were impressive in their opening series, and the Bruins home-ice advantage is counterbalanced by the Canadiens taking three of four this season.  It should be a great series, but tonight I think Montreal may be a bit rusty early since they’ve had such a long layoff and Boston will come out determine not to drop game 1 like they did in their last series. Confidence-5

8:10- Kansas City Royals: The Royals look to finish the sweep against visiting Toronto who will most likely be without Melky Cabrera at least for tonight’s game. KC is 8-3 at home as they give the ball to Jeremy Guthrie tonight. He’ll be opposed by Mark Buehrle who was pitching incredibly well until his last start, but he was knocked around by Boston.  I think he’ll have another rough outing tonight against a suddenly strong Royals lineup. Confidence-3

8:10- Oklahoma City Thunder: In one of the most competitive first round series in a long time, the Grizz and Thunder meet again tonight in Memphis. The last four games have gone to OT, and the Grizzlies now have a 3-2 lead on the favored Thunder as Memphis looks to close out the series tonight.  I just can’t see this one ending before KD breaks out of his shooting slump and has something to say about the outcome of this. Expect seven games in this series whoever ultimately ends up winning. Confidence-5

8:11- 9 or more: Westbrook and Durant will need to step up with their backs against the wall tonight in Memphis. I expect them to try and take charge and put up plenty of shots early and often in tonight’s game. Confidence-4

8:40- Colorado RockiesThe Mets are in Colorado to take on the Rox who are off to a good start especially at home where they’re 8-4 and their offense is clicking on all cylinders. Even though Bartolo Colon has been good for the Mets lately, I’ll take Colorado at Coors Field to get the win. Confidence-3

9:30- 46 Points or more: This 3rd quarter total points prop is a tricky one since both teams have played shutdown defense at times even though the games themselves have been pretty high scoring.  I’ll lean towards the over, but it depends on how the first half goes. Confidence-2

10:47- Golden State Warriors: In another great series, the Warriors and Clippers meet in game six in Oakland.  Call me selfish, but I want another game 7 in this series too.  Ultimately, I think the Clippers win the series, but I think Steph Curry and company get the win tonight at the O forcing another great deciding game. Confidence-4
