Arizona Diamondbacks option Tony Campana to Triple-A Reno

The Arizona Diamondbacks have optioned 27 year old outfielder Tony Campana to Triple-A Reno today according to Arizona Sports 98.7 on Twitter.

Campana hasn’t necessarily done much with the big league club this season as he’s batting a lousy .160/.176/.220 with nine strikeouts and two RBI’s off eight hits through 50 at-bats. Campana will always be known for his inside the park home run against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field while he was a member of the Chicago Cubs.

This was the first time Campana was able to make the Opening Day roster with either the Chicago Cubs or Arizona Diamondbacks. Too bad it didn’t go as well as he planned. But at least he was able to play against his former team last month.

He’ll continue to serve the club with outfield depth.

Alfredo Marte will end up providing the big league roster with some depth in the outfield. The 25 year old was hitting .342/.409/.468 with Triple-A Reno Aces.
