It is quite the year for quarterbacks in the state of California.
In fact, the top five pro style quarterbacks in the country according to 24/7 Sports’ composite rankings are from the state.
The top quarterback, Josh Rosen, is committed to the UCLA Bruins while the second-ranked signal-caller, Ricky Town, pledged to the Southern Cal Trojans. Blake Barnett (3) is committed to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish while Jake Browning (5) will join the Washington Huskies.
On Friday, the fourth-ranked quarterback, 4-star Brady White, committed to the Arizona State Sun Devils. The 6’2, 190-pound White is from Santa Clarita and attends Hart High School.
Barton Simmons of 24/7 Sports believes White can compete for time immediately.
He’s got all kinds of arm talent but White is also athletic enough to run the read option and make some plays with his feet. Maybe most important, White can get the ball out quickly, make throws from different platforms and has a firm grasp of the offense, having run a very similar system in HS.
As an early enrollee, White has a legitimate opportunity to be a rare true freshman starter.
White is ranked as the 12th-best prospect in the state of California and the 93rd-best overall prospect in the class of 2015.
He also had offers from the Arizona Wildcats, Oregon Ducks and Tennessee Volunteers, among others.
