While the Los Angeles Galaxy’s second team is doing business in USL Pro, Chivas USA’s Reserves were in action on Tuesday against Real Salt Lake at America First Field. Devin Sandoval scored in the 42nd minute for Real Salt Lake, but a young, rising star named Caleb Calvert equalized in the 51st minute of play to give the Goats Reserves a hard-fought 1-1 draw.

Calvert is hoping to make it to the first team and perhaps spearhead a revival of a club that could be losing its identity by the end of the year.

“I thought we played very well as a team. As you could have seen, we’re getting better and better and the results show that,” said Calvert to cdchivasusa.com’s Olivia Cervantes. “It’s unfortunate we didn’t come out with a win; the [Real Salt Lake] keeper came up big for them. Hopefully next time we can get that win; we’re getting better.

“I’m glad the coaches gave me a chance to play the full 90 minutes and thankfully I got the goal so I can show them what I can do and maybe put some questions in mind for the next time we have a First Team game.”
