Lakers coaching rumors: Mike Dunleavy Sr. would love to interview for job

The NBA coaching career of Mike Dunleavy Sr. may once again be starting up. After being out of the league since he was fired by the Los Angeles Clippers back in 2010, Dunleavy Sr. has been laying low but has resurfaced in a big way by throwing his hat i the ring to possibly coach the Los Angeles Lakers in 2014-15.

Dunleavy appeared on SiriusXM Radio to express his desire to rescue the Lakers, citing his run with the team in the 1990s.

Per Mark Medina:

“If I had an opportunity to interview with them I would definitely be interested,” said Dunleavy on his SiriusXM NBA Radio show on Thursday. “I had a great run there when I coached in the ’90s.”

The only knock on Dunleavy seems to be that he didn’t have hardly any success with the Clippers — something we can now attribute to Donald Sterling — and he’s been out of the league for almost half a decade. Still, the Lakers will be considering all options, no matter how large or small, and that seemingly will include Dunleavy.
