P.K. Subban scores game-winner, Boston Bruins fans pelt him with trash and racial slurs

P.K. Subban was the hero in Game 1 on Thursday evening as the Montreal Canadiens beat the Boston Bruins in double overtime by the score of 4-3, and after scoring the game-winner, Subban was hit with trash from the Boston crowd.

In this gif from SI Extra Mustard you can see a bottle hit Subban on the right shoulder.

I’ve never been so upset following an outcome of a sporting event to throw my garbage at an opposing player and I’ve never been so upset that I voice racist thoughts and taunts on Twitter which many Bruins fans did following the 4-3 loss.

CBS Detroit compiled a collection of the tweets from Bruins fans with the racial slurs and profane language censored out, but you can see the type of filth that was pouring out here.

Bruins President Cam Neely released a statement regarding the racist tweets via CBS Detroit on Friday afternoon.

“The racist, classless views expressed by an ignorant group of individuals following Thursday’s game via digital media are in no way a reflection of anyone associated with the Bruins organization,” Neely said.

By the way, Subban’s younger brother Malcolm plays for the Boston minor league affiliate.

Subban won the Norris Trophy as the NHL’s top defenseman last season.
